The main arguments that I hear against ecological settlements are usually economic. People always tell me it is all very beautiful, but that it doesn't pay. Back in 1982, my wife and I began to wonder ‘why something people want and think is necessary is not possible economically?'. We were looking for an answer to that when we discovered something that is as basic as the need for water and food: With interest and compound interest, our money grows exponentially - which sets the stage for pathological growth of our economic system. In fact, only 3% of our present volume of money is needed, to-day, for trade or the economic exchange of goods and services. 97% is used for speculation. Therefore, with this present money system, neither social justice nor ecological sustainability can be achieved. What society needs to create is a growth pattern that allows our money system to stop growing in quantity at an optimal point in time, thus allowing our economy to start growing in quality and to increase the quality of our lives - ecologically. More about this can be found in our book - Margrit Kennedy and Declan Kennedy: ‘Interest and Inflation Free Money - creating an Exchange Medium that works for Everybody and protects the Earth', ......
